Donate a Box to a Veteran

As part of this collaboration, Heartland to Home has launched the Heartland Defender Program.

When customers purchase their Heartland to Home produce box, they will have the opportunity to purchase an additional box for a veteran. That donated box will provide fresh fruits and vegetables to a local veteran while also supporting the local growers and programs helping make the food available.

Heartland to Home will also dedicate a portion of our own boxes to veterans at no cost.

Growing Together: Our Partnership with the Veterans Garden

Local Food. Veteran Support. Community in Action.

Heartland to Home and the North Valley Community Food Bank are proud to be building a meaningful partnership with the Veterans Garden in Chico—one rooted in local agriculture, volunteerism, food access, and support for those who have served our country.

Over the past several months, our teams have had the opportunity to work alongside the Veterans Garden in a very hands-on way. We have helped recruit community volunteers for harvest days, and members of our MACC team have gone directly into the garden to pick fresh produce.

The produce coming from the garden is already making an impact. The Veterans Garden has generously donated fresh produce to the North Valley Community Food Bank, helping us provide nutritious food to individuals and families throughout our communities. We have also been able to share produce with local veterans clinics, extending the harvest directly to veterans.

But this partnership is just getting started.

Supporting the Garden Through Heartland to Home

As Heartland to Home begins distributing its fresh produce boxes, we plan to purchase select locally grown produce directly from the Veterans Garden for inclusion in our boxes.

This creates a partnership that benefits everyone involved.

Our customers receive fresh, locally grown produce. The Veterans Garden receives revenue that helps sustain its programs and operations. Heartland to Home strengthens its commitment to sourcing locally whenever possible. And together, we create new opportunities to serve veterans throughout our region.

Rather than simply receiving donated produce, we want to help create a sustainable relationship by purchasing produce from the Veterans Garden and investing back into the work they are doing.
